Why Coaching?
What is coaching and why healthcare professionals need it: Professional coaching uses inquiry around perceptions, beliefs, and habits to define, reframe, and align work with personal values. Executives and elite athletes have coaches, and with mounting evidence, it is becoming clear that healthcare professionals should be no exception. Professional coaching for physicians has been shown to decrease burnout and emotional exhaustion as well as improve quality of life.
As Oregon coach Chrissie Ott, MD says:
Physician Coaching equals Mental health optimization times
personal/professional development minus stigma
What coaching is not: Coaching is not therapy. Coaching is not directive but rather a way to help individuals discover the answers that lie within.
Review the evidence:
The impact of coaching on physician well-being is powerful.
